This
was my first year at Pico Blanco--and it immediately followed 14 days of
hectic vacation on the go at Disney World and Florida which didn't
exactly put me in the proper frame of mind for sleeping on the ground and
running around in a camp. My attitude quickly changed however as I saw
the fun the boys were having while learning so much, and I had a chance for
more father-son bonding. (I even had a lot of fun myself!) The
camp is well run and keeps the boys participating in many activities. It
is well worth attending with your son. Here's a run down of the awards
the boys received at Camp competing against all other packs in the camp:
Trevor
Johnson took first at Gumby Stick and BB gun shooting. Trevor also
captured a fox for the Nature display for the camp.
Glenn
Eggers won Gold in the Plant Identification contest, and Seth Williams
captured third in the same event.
Devon
Hayes came in second in Archery.
Zach
Markow and Chris Hudson took third in the camp treasure hunt.
Tanner
Posada won third in the water balloon toss.
The
Polar Bear (those brave enough to dip into the frigid creek at 7 a.m.) patch
recipients were Seth Williams, Matt Hudson, Romel and Tanner Posada, and
Trevor Johnson. Cubmaster Hudson was sorely disappointed there was no
belly flop contest this year--and claims he therefore won by default this
coveted prize again.
Also
in attendance this year were Luke, Isaac and Steve Rogers (who had to leave
early), Collin and Kevin Black, Susie Posada, Jeff Markow, Steve Johnson, Kim
Williams, and yours truly. A few photos of camp activities appear below,
but the whole album can be viewed at http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291660131.
Be
sure to mark your 2003 calendar for Camp Pico Blanco for the few days before
July 4th. It is well worth attending--even for the already harried
vacationer. Hope your Fourth of July this year was a blast.
